West Ham defender Winston Reid says he signed a new contract with the Hammers because he believes they can achieve a top four finish.
The New Zealand international penned a new six-and-a-half-year contract at Upton Park at the start of March after months of speculation over his future.
The 26-year-old was strongly linked with moves to Arsenal and Tottenham when his previous deal ran out but believes he made the right decision to stay put.
Reid believes he can help West Ham achieve their goal of European football, claiming a top four finish is not beyond the realms of possibility.
The Hammers started the current campaign well but their form has tailed off since the turn of the year and they are 201.00 to finish in the top six having slipped to ninth.
Reid says he is committed to making sure West Ham are regular challengers for the European positions, admitting it has been a frustrating time recently after dropping off the pace.
“It did strike me to move to another place, but my family and I wanted to stay here,” Reid told The Sun.
“I figured out what I wanted to do with my career and that’s be part of the place here and help the club to improve.
“It won’t take only one or two years – it might be after I finish that the club gets into the top six or top four.”
He added: “It’s unfortunate that us as a team in the last couple of months, we haven’t been functioning at 100 per cent compared to the beginning of the year.”
West Ham return to action after the international break with a clash against Leicester at the King Power Stadium.
Reid is a doubt for the game, which the Hammers are 3.10 to win, due to a hamstring injury. The Foxes are 2.30 and the draw is 3.30.
