Raheem Sterling is targeting silverware after admitting he was “relieved” to have joined Manchester City from Liverpool.
The 20-year-old England winger signed for Manuel Pellegrini’s team on Monday and he says the opportunity to challenge for honours every season was the main factor in his decision to choose the Etihad Stadium.
“I’m just glad it’s all over and done with and I can’t wait,” Sterling said.
We have a team that is capable of winning things year in, year out.
“The more quality players around you, the more quality it brings out in you.”
Manchester City are 3.75 to win the Premier League next season and Sterling expects to be challenging.
“The thing that excites me the most is the world-class squad we have and knowing we have a team that is capable of winning things year in, year out,” Sterling said.
While some of Sterling’s comments may be interpreted as a dig at his former teammates at Anfield, he paid tribute to the managers he has worked under at Liverpool.
He praised both Rafael Benitez and Kenny Dalglish for the faith they had shown in him and, in spite of the consistent rumours suggesting their relationship had broken down, Sterling thanked Brendan Rodgers for allowing him to establish his place in the first team.
“I want to thank Brendan Rodgers for giving me a chance and an opportunity in the first team, and giving me a real chance to cement a place in the first team and show the world my talents,” he added.
Sterling can be backed at 3.75 to score more ten or more goals in the Premier League next season.
