Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has warned all of his players that they are playing for their futures, as hopes of a top-four Premier League finish continue to ebb away.
A 1-0 defeat at struggling Hull City left the Reds seven points adrift of the top four with just four games to play, with Liverpool having won only one of their last five league games and failed to score in their last two.
It’s fair to say every single player here is playing for his future.
And Rodgers is under no illusions about the importance of the performances of his players in the closing matches of the campaign, with Spurs and Southampton hot on their heels in the table.
He said after a disappointing display at the KC Stadium on Tuesday evening: “I spoke to the players at the end and I told them that we have an obligation to fight right to the end of the season.
“It’s fair to say every single player here is playing for his future.
“We wanted to be in that top four, but it was always going to be difficult for us with the way our season mapped itself out, but we are looking to get momentum to take us through to next season.
“The players put great energy into the game and they worked very hard, but their struggles were the same as they have been for a great part of the season in terms of creativity and scoring goals.”
Liverpool face Chelsea, Crystal Palace and Stoke City in their last three games, but next up in a visit from relegation-threatened QPR on Saturday.
The Reds are 1.36 to secure a win over Rangers, with the draw 4.75, while a 2-0 Liverpool victory is available at 7.50.
