Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers insists that winger Raheem Sterling, who has put contract talks with the Anfield club on hold, is going nowhere this summer.
Sterling gave an interview to BBC Sport on Wednesday stating that he was concerned about winning trophies and not money when he had been discussing a new deal, with his current contract still having more than two years to run.
However, with those talks now on the back-burner until the summer, Rodgers wants his player to focus on on-field matters, with Liverpool still in the hunt for a top-four finish in the Premier League.
Raheem has two and a half years left on his deal and he’s not going anywhere in the summer.
Liverpool are available at 4.33 to secure a top-four spot, with Manchester United 1.25 and Tottenham Hotspur 11.00.
Rodgers told reporters ahead of a crucial trip to the Emirates Stadium to take on Arsenal on Saturday: “Raheem has two and a half years left on his deal and he’s not going anywhere in the summer.
“I think the kid has tried to put off all talk about contracts and money. For now, hopefully, the focus will be on football.
“Liverpool are one of the superpowers of football and if the owners don’t want to sell, they don’t have to.
“If his ambition is trophies, that’s perfectly aligned with what we want. This is Liverpool. It’s an honour for him to be here.”
Sterling have scored ten goals in all competitions for the Reds this season and was also on target for England in their 4-0 Euro 2016 qualifying win over Lithuania just under a week ago.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are also still in the FA Cup this season and face a sixth round replay at Blackburn Rovers next week, with Aston Villa awaiting the winners in a Wembley semi-final.
