Brendan Rodgers says his Liverpool squad are eager to get back into action and right the wrongs of their home defeat to Manchester United.
The Liverpool boss admits it has been a frustrating wait during the international break but he hopes the time spent working on the training ground will pay off against Arsenal at the Emirates on Saturday.
Liverpool suffered their first domestic defeat of 2015 against United and in doing so slipped five points behind Louis van Gaal’s men in the race for a top four finish.
Rodgers says his players know they must do better against Arsenal.
“We’ve had a long two weeks, it’s probably one of the few games where after the international break we’ve had to suffer a little bit, because we didn’t perform and lost, but there is extra motivation there to get something from the game and that is something that we clearly want to achieve,” said the Liverpool boss.
Liverpool are 4.50 to return to winning ways against third placed Arsenal, who are 1.85 to win.
Rodgers says Liverpool will have to retain possession much better than they did against Man United and while he admits that will also be the game plan for opposite number Arsene Wenger he makes no secret of the fact the Reds must take a positive result from North London.
“That’s a huge part of our game, and it’s Arsenal’s game. But for us, we’ll go there and tactically we are very clear on the idea of the game and we need to get something from the game, that’s clear.”
Liverpool are 4.33 to finish in the top four this season and their manger is refusing to give up on that target.
“These final eight games are going to be exciting games and there is still every possibility for us to make the top four,” added Rodgers.
