Morgan Schneiderlin seems certain to leave Southampton this summer and join an English side that will be playing in the Champions League next season.

The France international, who was linked with a transfer to Tottenham last summer only to eventually remain with Saints, appears to have ruled out a switch to White Hart Lane in the next three months.

It had been expected that Schneiderlin would prefer to move to Spurs so that he could team up with former Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino, but the north London outfit will be playing in the Europa League next term, for the fifth year in a row.

I have a two-year contract. If a club pays the right amount for me, it will be time to leave.

That does not appear to appeal to Schneiderlin, who said: “Yes, I think my decision is made.

“I learned a lot last season. The goal is to stay in England. It is a championship that I like and where I have a lot of fun. If I leave Southampton, it is for a club that plays better than the Europa League.

“There are ongoing discussions but nothing is done. But of course the Champions League is my goal. If I leave Southampton it will be for a club in the Champions League.

Southampton are 13.00 to finish in the top four of the Premier League next season, while Spurs can be backed at 7.00.
