Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood believes that his side’s battle to beat the Premier League drop is being boosted by having the best midfielder in the country on current form.
Sherwood was full of praise for England international Fabian Deph following a 3-2 home win over Everton, which kept the Villans two points clear of the Premier League bottom three with just three games to play.
I’m waiting for somebody to tell me a better midfield player than Fabian Delph.
He said of the former Leeds United schemer: “Fabian Delph showed why, in my opinion, he’s the best midfielder in the country at the moment.
“I’m waiting for somebody to tell me a better midfield player than Fabian Delph. I wouldn’t swap him for anyone in the mess we’re in.”
Villa can be backed at 21.00 to be relegated, with Hull City 6.00 and Newcastle United 6.00.
Meanwhile, Sherwood also admitted that he may face a fight to keep loan midfielder Tom Cleverley at the club next season, with the Manchester United man having found his form in recent games.
Having seen Cleverley score for the second consecutive game, Sherwood added: “He was tremendous, tireless around the pitch and showed a real cool head in front of goal.
“I’ve told Tom I want to keep him, but it’ll be up to him. He’ll have a choice to make because I would think there would be a number of teams interested in him.”
Everton are the club reported to be most interested in Cleverley, who enjoyed a loan spell at Wigan Athletic under now Toffees boss Roberto Martinez.
