Manchester City midfielder David Silva has confirmed that he has been given the all-clear after being taken to hospital after the 2-0 win against West Ham United.
Silva had to leave the pitch on a stretcher after being caught in the face by Cheikhou Kouyate’s elbow, although both managers said after the match that the incident had been an accident.
It was initially thought that Silva had suffered damage to his cheekbone and collarbone and he was taken to hospital after being given oxygen on the pitch.
The referee was so near and he decided he was unintentional. Nothing more happens.
But Silva later tweeted that he had been given the all-clear to go home after tests.
City boss Manuel Pellegrini said after the match: “I always think that a player doesn’t want to damage another player. The referee was so near and he decided he was unintentional. Nothing more happens.”
Hammers manager Sam Allardyce agreed, saying: “Accidental. It was innocuous. I didn’t think it was a foul. I just had a look now.
“Everybody thinks it is more serious attack from Cheikhou than it was. It wasn’t deliberate at all. It happened behind him and he didn’t think he’d done anything.”
Manchester City host Aston Villa on Saturday and are 7.00 to beat Tim Sherwood’s side 2-0 and 1.83 to keep a clean sheet against the FA Cup finalists.
