Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has another problem to solve this summer after Martin Skrtel claimed the club’s latest contract offer to him was unacceptable.
The central defender has been one of the Reds’ most consistent performers in recent seasons and has featured in 220 Premier League matches for the club since arriving at Anfield from Zenit St Petersburg in January 2008.
The 30-year-old Slovakia international, who is currently with his country as they prepare for a Euro 2016 qualifier against FYR Macedonia, started 48 matches in all competitions for Liverpool last season and has 12 months left on his current Anfield contract.
The contract offered is unacceptable for me.

He said: “I am still waiting for the new contract. I think a contract like this is offered to players who are much older than me or to players who have had some health complications. But I feel good and not so old to sign this contract.
“Also I think my health is OK. The contract offered is unacceptable for me. This is the reason why I didn’t sign it. I still have a contract running with the club. There was some speculation about interest from other clubs but that is not coming from me. Now I am with the national team and will be going on holiday after that.”
Liverpool can be backed at 3.75 to finish in the Premier League top four next season and are 21.00 to be crowned champions, with Manchester City available at 3.75.
