Martin Skrtel says he is happy at Liverpool and is close to signing a new, long-term deal at Anfield.
The centre-back is out of contract at the end of next season and has been linked with a move away in recent weeks, with clubs from both Italy and Germany said to be keeping a close eye on his situation.
However, the 30-year-old has rubbished speculation suggesting he could leave this summer and stressed he is happy to stay with the Reds.
Bundesliga side Wolfsburg and Serie A outfit Napoli, managed by former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez, are both said to be keen on the Slovakia international, but Skrtel said: “I am not leaving anywhere. Not to Wolfsburg nor to Naples.”
Skrtel’s agent, Karol Csonto, echoed the defender’s comments and suggested he will put pen to paper on an extension in the near future.
He said in the Liverpool Echo: “The only offer which is lying on Martin Skrtel’s table right now is the extension of his contract from Liverpool.
“We have been working on the details, and we will be finalising it soon. It is not true that he has some offer from the German club. I don’t know anything even about their interest.”
Boss Brendan Rodgers is keen to tie down Skrtel to a new deal after the experienced player has emerged as his first-choice centre-back in the past 12 months.
He has made 287 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions since joining from Zenit St Petersburg in 2008 and will line up at West Brom on Saturday as Rodgers’ side look to bounce back from their FA Cup semi-final defeat against Aston Villa at Wembley.
Liverpool are 1.90 to win, West Brom are 4.00 and the draw is 3.50.
Meanwhile, Jordan Henderson is finally expected to sign his new Liverpool deal by the end of the week.
