Manchester United defender Chris Smalling has signed a new four-year contract with the Premier League giants.
The 25-year-old has put pen to paper on a deal that ties him to Old Trafford until 2019.
The England international has developed into a key man for both club and country in the last few years and has been a regular in the heart of United’s defence under boss Louis van Gaal this season, scoring four goals in 24 games.
United are 2.15 to beat Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday, the home team are 3.25 and the draw is 3.40.
“I’m delighted to sign my new contract,” the former Fulham man told the club’s official website. “I am so proud to play for such a great club.
“We have developed as a team over the course of the season under Louis van Gaal and we are now playing as a complete unit.
“This is a very exciting time to be at Manchester United, we are all determined to get back to where we belong and competing at the highest level.”
Van Gaal, meanwhile, has been impressed with the way the centre-back has performed this term as United have gradually improved under the Dutch coach’s guidance.
He said: “Chris has improved and developed immensely during the short time that I have been at the club and has become an integral part of the first team squad.
“He always conducts himself in a very professional manner and it is also pleasing that he has scored some important goals this season too. I am delighted he has signed a new contract.”
