Raheem Sterling hopes his on-going toe injury will not force him to miss Liverpool’s massive game against Arsenal next weekend.
The Reds are in desperate need of a win to keep their top four hopes alive after defeat to Manchester United last time out left them five points off a Champions League spot with eight games to.
The Merseysiders are now 4.33 to finish in the top four heading into their next game at third-placed Arsenal, who are 1.083 to secure a European spot.
Liverpool’s build-up to the forthcoming league fixture has not gone smoothly with Martin Skrtel and Steven Gerrard unavailable due to suspension.
Boss Brendan Rodgers will also be without Daniel Sturridge after he was ruled out for up to a month with a hip injury, and they are now waiting to discover whether Sterling will be fit to play.
The 20-year-old started for England in their 4-0 Euro 2016 qualifying win over Lithuania on Friday night, bagging his first goal for the senior side in the game at Wembley.
After the match, Sterling had an injection to ease a toe injury he has been carrying, ruling him out of England’s friendly with Italy on Tuesday.
Despite missing the trip to Turin, the forward hopes he will be fit to play against Arsenal when the domestic action resumes on 4th April.
When asked if he would be available to face the Gunners, Sterling said: “Hopefully, yeah. After this injection I’ll see how it goes in the next few days. Hopefully I will be okay for the Arsenal game.
“It had been pre-agreed with the FA and my club to get an injection after the game. I will receive some treatment back at the club and go from there.”
Liverpool are 4.33 to beat Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, with the Gunners 1.80 and the draw 3.60.
