Liverpool and England striker Daniel Sturridge is hopeful that surgery on a hip injury will finally help him overcome a series of problems which have ruined his season.
The 25-year-old, who scored 21 times in the Premier League in 2013/14, has been restricted to just 18 appearances so far this term and has been forced to travel to the United States to try and find a long-term solution to his issues.
And, having gone under the knife, Sturridge has high hopes that he can now make a full recovery, having been hampered by thigh, calf and hip injuries.
He said in a short statement: “Just want to let the world know I’ve had a successful operation on my hip. Onwards and upwards from here. Thanks for the support.”
Sturridge has not featured at all since the FA Cup sixth round replay against Blackburn Rovers just under a month ago, with Reds boss Brendan Rodgers frustrated to lose the services of his star forward.
Despite being without Sturridge, Liverpool remain in the hunt for a top-four finish, as they currently trail Manchester United by four points with three games to play.
Next up for the Merseysiders is a Sunday trip to Stamford Bridge to take on newly-crowned champions Chelsea, one of Sturridge’s former clubs.
The Reds are without a win in their last seven meetings with the Blues, with their last victory having come in May 2012, when they powered to a 4-1 league success at Anfield.
Liverpool can be backed at 3.60 to win at Chelsea on Sunday, with the draw 3.50, while the Reds are available at 8.50 to secure a top-four finish in the Premier League.
