Chelsea have been boosted by the news that John Terry has signed an extension to his contract.
The new deal will see the cental defender, who has been with the club since 1998, stay at Stamford Bridge at least until the end of the 2015-16 season.
Terry told Chelsea’s official website: “I’m delighted to have signed an extension to my contract with Chelsea.
“After adding another major trophy to my collection this month I hope myself, the players and manager can continue to bring success to our club.
I’m delighted to have signed an extension to my contract with Chelsea.
“Playing for this great club makes me so proud. And as always I would like to thank the fans who have continually supported me.”
He was supported by manager Jose Mourinho who insisted that, irrespective of the length of service, Terry deserved a new deal, adding: “He is a top defender. I am happy that he completely deserves this new contract after a season where he has already played 40 matches.”
In total Terry has played over 650 matches for the Blues and has lifted the Premier League trophy three times, the FA Cup five times, three League Cups, the Europa League and the Champions League, though Terry was suspended for that final.
He has also been named Chelsea’s Player of the Year twice.
Terry is also well on course to life the Premier League trophy for the fourth time at the end of the season. Chelsea are priced at 1.062 to lift the title with defending champions Manchester City 17.00.
