After the financial windfall of a fortnight ago it was back to earth again last weekend as only one of our potential goalscorers found the target.
Even then it was the player that we’d tipped at the shortest price, as dear old predictable Antoine Griezmann delivered for us for a third successive week. So with only a few weeks of the season remaining, we’re hoping to get back to the world of handsome profits and soon.
We start in the Premier League with Leicester’s match with Newcastle. The Foxes had been on a fine run of form as they aim to avoid relegation, before inevitably succumbing to defeat to Chelsea in midweek.
Having met the Premier League’s immovable object Leicester will be pleased to face easier opposition in the form of Newcastle. If Leicester are one of the form teams in the division, Newcastle are currently on the worst run. The Magpies have lost seven straight games and only have one win from their last 11 appearances.
Looking to take advantage will be the Leicester forward Jamie Vardy. We don’t often tip players who have only scored four goals this season but Vardy has hit three of them within his last six games as Leicester have turned their season around. Back him at [3.6] against the worst team in the Premier League.
Another side who had pulled themselves away from the relegation zone, only to taste defeat in their last match is Aston Villa. Only two points clear of the bottom three, Villa now have two successive home games from which they must gain the points required to guarantee escape.
Their motivation is clear but things won’t be easy against a rejuvenated Everton side that have won five and drawn one of their last six games. Yet whether they get the result they need or not, Villa are likely to score goals.
Villa have scored in five successive games and average and have scored over two goals in six of their last nine matches. Their chief goalscorer has been Christian Benteke who has scored nine from his last nine appearances. With Benteke failing to score against Man City last weekend, lets back him to open the scoring at a likely price of [5.5].
Like Villa, Juventus are a team with clear motivation. A draw will see them win the title when they travel to Sampdoria.
Without a win in their last five games, Sampdoria look like the perfect team for Juventus to achieve that ambition. Serie A top scorer Carlos Tevez has five from his last six league games and is available at a juicy looking [2.8] to hit the net.
We return to England to drop down the divisions to League One for the crucial match between Colchester and Preston. Both sides have plenty to play for on the last day of the season, with Colchester needing a win to climb out of the relegation zone and Preston looking to confirm automatic promotion.
On Preston’s side is the fact that their team contains the division’s top scorer Joe Garner. The former England U19 striker has had a topsy turvy career in which he’s scored regularly for Carlisle and Scunthorpe, but failed miserably during spells at Huddersfield, Nottingham Forest and Watford.
With 50 goals from his 100 appearances at Preston, it’s safe to say that Garner has now settled down and found a home. Some 25 of those goals have come in 36 league appearances this season, with Garner scoring five in his last three games. Back him to open the scoring at a likely [5.5].
Finally we head to Spain as one of the top scorers in La Liga takes on the European champions. Sevilla’s match with Real Madrid promises fireworks, with the home side looking to qualify for the Champions League and Madrid trying to land the title.
Sevilla’s hopes lie with Carlos Bacca, who has 19 goals in 30 league games this season. With four goals from his last five matches, let’s take a chance on Bacca adding to his tally at [3.0].
Best Bet: Benteke to score first at [5.5]
Back Vardy to score at [3.6]
Back Tevez to score at [2.8]
Back Garner to score at [5.5]
Back Bacca to score at [3.0]
