The Goalscorer Gamble: Ings To Get Back Into Swing Of Things

Dan Fitch is back with five goalscorer tips and has his money on Danny Ings to score for Burnley against Swansea…

After abject failure a fortnight ago we enjoyed a nice profit last week as Olivier Giroud and Sergio Aguero removed the monkey that was perched upon my back.

When basking in the glow of success it is always much easier to approach the following week’s tips with confidence and a sense that I have a legitimate right to claim soothsayer status. So here we go again…

We start in the Premier League where Burnley’s match with Swansea has caught my attention. The Swans have conceded in nine of their last ten games, while Burnley have scored in nine of their previous ten outings.

Despite the statistical likelihood that Burnley will find the net, their top scorer is available at a curiously juicy price. Danny Ings has nine Premier League goals this season, scoring five of them in his last seven appearances. Back Ings to score at likely odds of 3.02/1.

Perhaps Ings is a high price because his relegation threatened side aren’t fancied and there is another similar opportunity in the Capital One Cup final. Chelsea are rightly favourites against Spurs but I’m not sure that a certain Harry Kane should be rated as such an unlikely scorer.

Kane after all scored twice in Tottenham’s 5-3 win over Chelsea earlier this season and has since hit the net against Arsenal and Liverpool. Throw in the fact that Jose Mourinho’s defence are hardly impenetrable – they’ve conceded in four of their past five games – and Kane is worth a stab at a probable price of 8.07/1 to score the first goal.

We stay in England for the fiery Championship clash between Norwich and Ipswich. Billed as the ‘Old Farm’ derby, both sides are now vying for promotion, after the Canaries put together a brilliant run to reel Ipswich in.

Just a point now separates Norwich from Mick McCarthy’s team, after the home side won five games in a row. The goals have been flowing for Norwich, scoring 14 in that period. Lewis Grabban has scored four in those five games and is good value at 2.89/5 to add to his tally.

Over to Italy now for another forward in fine form. Mohamed Salah wasn’t given much of a chance at Chelsea, but now out on loan at Fiorentina he’s back amongst the goals.

Salah has scored three in his five games for the Viola, including the second goal against Spurs in their Europa League tie this week. Fiorentina travel to an improving Inter Milan side this weekend but will do so with confidence, having gone on an 11 game unbeaten run.

Inter have conceded in four of their last five Serie A games, so let’s go out on a limb and take a chance at a likely price of 11.010/1 to score the first goal.

Finally we end with a player who has regularly provided this column with positive results this season. Eintracht Frankfurt’s Alexander Meier is no longer the Bundesliga’s top scorer, having been overtaken by Arjen Robben, but his record of 14 goals in 21 games still makes for impressive reading.

This weekend Frankurt host a struggling Hamburg side hovering just two points outside of the relegation zone. Hamburg have only kept one clean sheet in their last five games and in one of them they took a 8-0 thrashing at the hands of Bayern Munich.

Meier has gone two games without a goal, which given his high standards this season means he’s due another one. Back him at 2.47/5 to add to his tally.
