Yaya Toure has dropped a big hint he could be set to leave Manchester City at the end of the season.
This season the 31-year-old has, at times, been a shadow of the player that helped City win the Premier League title last term and there has been plenty of speculation that he could be allowed to move on when the transfer window reopens.
The Ivory Coast international midfielder has not been anywhere near as influential in this year’s title race, scoring just seven goals as Manuel Pellegrini’s side have slipped out of contention in recent weeks.
There has been talk of a falling out behind the scenes at the Etihad Stadium and his agent, Dimitri Seluk, has admitted in the past that Toure’s time at City could soon be up.
Former City boss Roberto Mancini has confirmed that he would like to be reunited with Toure at Inter Milan, while French giants Paris Saint-Germain are also watching his situation closely.
The former Barcelona man admitted he needs to be challenged wherever he is playing and appeared to open the door on a potential move.
He told Foot Mercato: “No amount of wages will make me stay at a club if I feel that I no longer belong there or if no challenge exists for me.
“It would be unjust on my part. There comes a moment where numbers don’t stop us, it goes beyond that, even if the English press seem more interested in the numbers than the sport itself.
“For the future, I don’t know more than you do, because I will always go where I am offered new challenges. That is in my nature.”
City take on Aston Villa on Saturday looking to stay in the race for a top-four finish. Pellegrini’s side are 1.25 to win, Villa are 11.00 and the draw is 6.00.
