West Ham striker Enner Valencia looks set to be out of action for a while after injuring his toe on a broken cup.

The freak accident happened at the home of the Ecuadorian, who needed stitches to a deep laceration after standing on the broken cup.

Reports indicate the injury will keep the 25-year-old, who has scored five times for the Hammers this season, out of action for between two and three weeks.

That will mean Valencia misses this weekend’s trip to Arsenal, a game West Ham are 8.00 to win, with the Gunners 1.40 and the draw 4.75.

The injury could also keep him out of the clash with Sunderland the following week, although manager Sam Allardyce refused to put a timescale on his recovery.

The news is a huge setback to the Hammers’ hopes of a European finish as they are already without Andy Carroll for the rest of the season.

Carlton Cole is also currently absent, leaving Diafra Sakho as Alardyce’s only fit senior striker.

Allardyce said: “He had an accident at home and has cut his big toe quite severely on a broken cup and that has been stitched.

“We’re not exactly certain but we think it may be too soon for him to be considered for this game.

“A freak accident at home is something that we didn’t expect, but these are the things that seem to happen.

“And of course with it being one of our few strikers available, again it’s a big blow for us if that is the case.”

West Ham head to Arsenal looking to get their push for Europe back on track after failing to win any of their last six league matches.

The Hammers are 67.00 to finish in the top six, with Southampton 1.72 and Tottenham 1.53.
