Experienced Dutchman Louis van Gaal expects to be succeeded as Manchester United manager by his current assistant and club legend, Ryan Giggs.

Van Gaal is under contract at Old Trafford until the summer of 2017 and has already stated that the United job will be his last in management.

And, ahead of a tough Premier League trip to Everton on Sunday, the Dutchman has given his full backing to former United winger Giggs, as he told MUTV: “I expect that he will be the next manager after I am gone.

“Now I have the responsibility. He has tasks that he has to perform like the players do. What he has to do, for me, he does it very well.”

Meanwhile, versatile Dutchman Daley Blind could return from injury to play a part against the Toffees, but Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo and Michael Carrick will all definitely miss out.

Centre-back Jonny Evans is also back in the matchday squad after serving a six-match suspension.

United go into the game on course to secure a top-four finish and ensure a return to the Champions League next season, having won six games in a row before their 1-0 loss at Chelsea last weekend.

The Red Devils are 2.15 to take all three points at Goodison Park, with the draw 3.50, while an Everton 1-0 win is available at 11.00.

Van Gaal also told reporters that there was nothing new to report on ongoing contract talks with goalkeeper David de Gea, whose current deal runs out in the summer of 2016.

He added of the rumoured Real Madrid target: “I am not the boss. I want him to stay, but I’ve explained that the player is the boss – he can say yes or no.”
