Dutch striker Robin van Persie says he has no plans to leave Manchester United this summer and played down doubts over his recent fitness record.
The 31-year-old has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford after three years with the Red Devils, but Van Persie insists that he in no rush to go anywhere, while also speaking of his annoyance at people pointing to his past injury problems.
He told reporters: “Am I worried?. No, I’m totally relaxed. I have a contract with this club until 2016.
“Things could change now, but that all depends on Manchester United not me. Believe me, I’m relaxed – I’m not going to be part of a puppet show.
“Whenever I have been fit at United I was playing in the first team all the time. People talk about my injuries, but I’ve only had one this season.
“In August I’m 32, but I still have the ambition to play for another eight years.
“In a few years’ time I may have to accept that I will no longer play at the very highest level. I don’t think that moment is coming now. I still feel very, very fit.”
Van Persie has scored 58 goals in 104 appearances in all competitions for United since his arrival from Premier League rivals Arsenal.
Last term he managed ten goals in 27 league appearances, just two less than leading scorer Wayne Rooney.
United can be backed at 1.25 to finish in the top four in the Premier League next season and are 6.00 to be crowned champions.
