Robin van Persie has joined Turkish side Fenerbahce on a three-year contract and has immediately set his sights on winning trophies with his new club.

The Dutch striker has left Manchester United after three years at Old Trafford and was introduced to his new club’s fans at a ceremony in their stadium with about 10,000 present.

He told them: “I am humbled to see so many great fans come to greet me. I can only imagine what kind of party it would be if we won the league. I hope I can share that with you.

“I promise you one thing – I will do everything in my power to help Fenerbahce win as many trophies to make you happy. Let’s do it together.”

Van Persie will know at least one of his new team-mates with Nani, having also signed for the Turkish side from Manchester United earlier in July.

His signature for Fenerbahce brings to an end Van Persie’s long association with the Premier League.

He joined Arsenal from Feyenoord in 2004 and spent eight years with the Gunners, scoring 96 goals in 194 Premier League appearances for Arsene Wenger’s side.

He left Arsenal for Manchester United in the summer of 2012 and had an excellent first season at Old Trafford, playing in all their league games and scoring 26 goals as the side won the Premier League title.

That was Sir Alex Ferguson’s final season in charge at United and, under first David Moyes and then, last season, Louis van Gaal, the Dutch striker struggled with form and fitness, though he made a further 48 Premier League appearances, scoring 22 goals.

In his absence Manchester United are 1.25 to finish in the top four next season and are 6.00 to win the league. Chelsea are 2.50 to retain the title.
