Manager Arsene Wenger believes that his Arsenal squad need only the odd top-class recruit to be able to challenge strongly for the Premier League title next season.

The Frenchman was speaking after seeing his side boost their bid to finish in second place behind champions Chelsea by winning 3-1 against Hull City at the KC Stadium.

We want to finish as high as we can.

And Wenger, whose side trail Manchester City on goal difference with a game in hand, already has one eye on next season, when he hopes to be able to bid to end a wait of more than a decade for a 14th league title.

He told Sky Sports: “I feel that we have made progress. Chelsea have won the Premier League because they have been the most consistent, but let’s prepare well for next season and give them a good fight.

“We have to finish well, but the basis is there. We do not need to buy numbers, if we find top, world-class players we look at it, but we have a very good squad in numbers.

“We want to finish as high as we can. Our competitive attitude is to finish looking at ourselves thinking that we have given the maximum until the last day.”

Wenger was able to welcome midfielder Jack Wilshere back after injury at Hull, while he is hopeful that striker Danny Welbeck will be back in action in the near future as he aims to overcome a slight knee problem.

Next up for the Gunners is a visit from Swansea City on Monday 11th May, with Arsenal 1.30 to win the game, while the draw is available at 5.50 and a Swans win is 8.50.
