Arsene Wenger feels attack is Arsenal’s best form of defence.

Arsene Wenger believes his Arsenal side should look to attack teams as they look to secure a top-four Premier League finish this season.

The Gunners chief was pleased with his side’s seventh win in the last eight league matches on Wednesday night as goals from Olivier Giroud and Alexis Sanchez secured a 2-1 victory against relegation strugglers Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road.

I wanted the team to continue to attack, because we are not a team that can sit off and wait for the teams who commit and get them only on the break.

It leaves the north Londoners in third position, one point ahead of Manchester United, while in-form Liverpool are just three points behind in fifth.

However second place is also still up for grabs as Manchester City are only four points better off so there are a number of teams scrapping it out for those top-four spots with 10 games remaining.

And Wenger feels his side’s best chance of qualifying for next season’s Champions League via their league finish will be to go on the offensive.

“I wanted the team to continue to attack, because we are not a team that can sit off and wait for the teams who commit and get them only on the break. We need to master possession and we did that well,” Wenger told Arsenal Player.

A key in Arsenal’s attack is Giroud and Wenger singled his fellow Frenchman out for special praise after he bagged his 10th goal of the season which has been shortened by a four-month broken leg injury absence.

He added: [Giroud] has that mental strength, he’s strong mentally too. He can take criticism and respond, and he’s shown that.”

Arsenal, who are 1.16 to secure a top-four finish, can be backed at 1.40 to win their next Premier League game against West Ham at the Emirates Stadium on 14th March. The Hammers are 7.00 to win and the draw is 4.75.
