Rafael Benitez says his future does not depend on Napoli’s result against Dnipro in the second leg of their Europa League semi-final clash in Ukraine.
Dnipro are 2.50 to qualify for the Europa League final after claiming a creditable 1-1 draw in Naples last week.
David Lopez gave the Serie A outfit the lead early in the second half, only for Dnipro substitute Yevhen Seleznyov to equalise with a close-range finish nine minutes from time.
Former Valencia, Chelsea and Liverpool coach Benitez has been linked with a move away from Napoli at the end of the season even though he has guided them to the last-four of the Europa League and to fourth place in Serie A.
We are totally focused on this very important game and we want to reach the Europa League final.
Napoli are 2.62 to finish in the top three in Italy this season and 7.00 to beat Dnipro 1-0 on Thursday.
However, Benitez insists Thursday’s result against last season’s Ukrainian Premier League runners-up will have no bearing on his future.
He said: “We have a very important match and we are focused on getting a positive result here. We have to show all we can on the football pitch. My personal European experience is important but first of all we must consider the experience of this team and these players.
“My future at Napoli doesn’t depend directly on this result. We are totally focused on this very important game and we want to reach the Europa League final.
“We have lots of respect for Dnipro as we’ve seen what they are capable of. We saw their strength; these are tough and tenacious opponents.”
