Ronny Deila is hoping Celtic will cut out their sloppy mistakes.

Celtic boss Ronny Deila has warned his players they must cut out their sloppy mistakes if they are going to progress in the Champions League this season.

The 39-year-old Norweigian tactician watched as his strong Hoops side, including nine players who were on international duty last month, slip to a 5-3 friendly defeat against Czech outfit Dukla Prague at St Mirren Park on Saturday night.

We can’t play like this or we will get big problems whoever we play, if it’s against Stjarnan or St Johnstone or Barcelona.

Marek Hanousek scored a hat-trick for Dukla before Jakub Mares and Tomas Prikryl were on target for the visitors, with Leigh Griffiths, Gary Mackay-Steven and Virgil van Dijk all on target for Celtic in a thrilling game.

However it left Deila with plenty to ponder ahead of the Glasgow giants’ Champions League second qualifying round first leg clash with Icelandic champions Stjarnan at Celtic Park on 15th July.

Stjarnan coach Runar Pall Sigmundsson watched the encounter and Deila feels he will have been given some encouragement ahead of their meeting.

Deila said: “I think he saw some possibilities there.

“We can’t play like this or we will get big problems whoever we play, if it’s against Stjarnan or St Johnstone or Barcelona.”

He added: “It was a good test for us. They are a good team. I don’t think we had a good performance but it’s early. We have been back four days with 60 per cent of the team.

“Of course I want to win every game we play and have good performances but that’s not how football is. You have to make yourself ready for good performances.

“You can see the players who have trained longer are sharper than the players who have only been here for one week.

“Now we have a good week of training and then Real Sociedad (in a friendly). We have no injuries, everyone is available, and that’s the positive thing.”

Meanwhile Celtic are 1.16 to win their Scottish Premiership opener against Ross County at Celtic Park on 1st August. County are 15.00 and the draw is 7.00.
