Gianluigi Buffon believes Juventus will have to score at least one goal at the Bernabeu if they are to have any chance of facing Barcelona in the Champions League final.
Real Madrid are 1.75 to reach next month’s Berlin final even though they lost last week’s first leg in Turin 2-1, but Buffon is determined to get past Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
Juventus have already clinched the Serie A title and are 7.50 to draw 1-1 with Real on Wednesday.
We consider this a massive competition and we haven’t been an important part of it for a long time.
The 37-year-old Buffon played in the Champions League final defeat to AC Milan 12 years ago and is keen to lift Juve to the pinnacle of the European game once again.
He said: “Lots of teams have lost at the Santiago Bernabeu and they always conceded goals.
“Real Madrid have great attacking strength and, if we only defend, we will have problems. They always score at home. We need to be smart because our advantage is very small.
“When you are 90 minutes away from a final with a small advantage you always have something to lose. We know that the only way to get through is to play well here.
“This is an occasion to feel proud. We consider this a massive competition and we haven’t been an important part of it for a long time.”
