Ron Vlaar believes Christian Benteke can play a key role for Aston Villa when Tim Sherwood’s side take on Liverpool in the semi-finals of the FA Cup.
The Belgium international had been struggling following his return from serious injury but has hit a rich vein of form of late with his goal in Saturday’s 1-0 victory at Tottenham being his eighth goal in just six Premier League matches.
Benteke found the net 19 times in his first season in England before grabbing another ten goals last term.
He was unlucky to get that big injury but he is back now and firing in the goals for us.
However, he had only scored twice in the Premier League this season until returning to the goal trail at the start of March when he netted in the 2-1 victory against West Brom.
He scored a hat-trick in last week’s 3-3 draw with QPR and also netted twice in the 4-0 win at Sunderland as well as grabbing a consolation goal in the 3-1 loss at Manchester United.
Benteke is 3.20 to score at any time against Liverpool in a match Villa can be backed at 19.00 to win 2-1. Villa are also available at 10.00 to win the FA Cup outright and at 11.00 to be relegated this season.
Vlaar said: “Christian is a massive player – and unbelievable for us. He is our main target. He can score goals and we need his goals to stay up.
“He gave us a win at Tottenham – which was huge for us. I wouldn’t like to play against him. He certainly keeps you sharp in training as well – and he makes you better.
“He was unlucky to get that big injury but he is back now and firing in the goals for us.”
