Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers says his players are fully committed to winning the FA Cup as they look to put recent league disappointments behind them.
The Reds are now 7.00 to finish in the Premier League’s top four this season after two crucial defeats to Manchester United and Arsenal in back-to-back games.
The losses leave Rodgers’ men seven points off fourth-placed Manchester City with seven games to play.
With Champions League qualification now looking unlikely, the focus for Liverpool switches to the FA Cup ahead of their quarter-final replay with Blackburn on Wednesday.
The Merseysiders were held to a goalless draw at Anfield in the first game and much now go to Blackburn hoping to avoid becoming the third Premier League side to bow out of the competition this year at Ewood Park.
Rodgers is desperate to avoid a giant killing and believes winning the FA Cup could save Liverpool from a disappointing season.
“The group is very committed to winning this trophy but, in order to do that you have to qualify, and we know Blackburn will be a difficult game for us,” he said.
“A trophy this season will mark another step forward for us. Getting to a final and winning a trophy is what we want.
“In terms of the FA Cup, that was always an objective.
“On Wednesday we’ll look to reach our second semi-final of the season in the cup competitions.
“Blackburn have got some excellent players. They defended well when they came to Anfield.”
Liverpool are 1.65 to beat Blackburn inside 90 minutes in Wednesday’s replay, with Rovers 6.00 and the draw 4.00.
The winner will face Aston Villa in the FA Cup semi-finals, with Arsenal and Reading contesting the other last four clash.
