Jordan Henderson hopes that Liverpool’s FA Cup quarter-final win at Blackburn will give everyone at the club a lift after a difficult couple of weeks for the Reds.
Philippe Coutinho grabbed the vital goal as Liverpool beat Rovers 1-0 in Wednesday’s FA Cup sixth-round replay at Ewood Park, a result that sets up a semi-final against Aston Villa at Wembley on 19th April.
Brendan Rodgers’ side had lost successive Premier League matches to Manchester United and Arsenal leading up to the game, results that have left them in grave danger of missing out on a top-four place this season.
I thought when Kolo Toure came on he was immense at the back.
However, they have reached the semi-finals of both the Capital One and FA Cups this season, and former Sunderland midfielder Henderson was pleased with the way they played against Blackburn.
He said: “I’m sure the semi-final against Villa will be a tough game because they are a good side but this result gives everyone a lift.
“We knew to come here would be tough for us and that they would make it difficult. But from start to finish, I thought we were brilliant. I thought we controlled the game.
“We’ve had suspensions and injuries over the last couple of weeks, but we’ve dealt with it really well, people have come in have done a great job. I thought when Kolo Toure came on he was immense at the back, especially towards the end. It was a great performance and gives everyone a lift now. We can really kick on to the end of the season.”
Liverpool are available at 2.62 to win the FA Cup outright and 7.00 to finish in the top four this season.
