Dutch defender Ron Vlaar has admitted that he could be tempted to sign a new contract and stay with FA Cup finalists Aston Villa beyond the summer.
The 30-year-old centre-back’s current deal runs out at the end of the season and he had been expected to move on, with a number of the elite Premier League sides reported to be showing an interest.
Things have changed for me in the past few months since (Tim) Sherwood took over.
However, Vlaar, who joined Villa in the summer of 2012 from Feyenoord, now says that he may opt to stay put, having revelled in the upturn in fortunes which has taken place since Tim Sherwood took over as head coach.
Vlaar confirmed: “Things have changed for me in the past few months since (Tim) Sherwood took over.
“It’s been a hard season for me with all the injuries. Now I just want to play and be important for the team. I don’t know about my future, but to be part of this feels so good.”
Meanwhile, Vlaar admits that Arsenal will be much-fancied to win the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday 30th May.
Vlaar added: “We know Arsenal are the favourites and it is going to be a tough game, but…we know within the camp we have got a really good team spirit and we have got a chance.”
Aston Villa are 3.50 to win the FA Cup for the eighth time in their history, with the Gunners 1.33 to set a new mark by lifting the trophy for the 12th time.
