Danny Welbeck has not recovered in time for the FA Cup Final.

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that striker Danny Welbeck will miss this weekend’s FA Cup Final against Aston Villa at Wembley.

The Arsenal frontman will also be unavailable for England’s June internationals against Republic of Ireland and Slovenia, the Frenchman confirmed.

Welbeck missed Arsenal’s last five Premier League games with a knee injury but he had hoped to recover in time for the Wembley showdown with Aston Villa.

The former Manchester United man scored the all-important winner at Old Trafford against his former club that sent Arsenal into the last four as they look to complete a successful defence of the trophy they won last May.

Wenger confirmed on Wednesday morning that the game will come too soon for the 24-year-old.

“Danny Welbeck will not be fit, not for us, nor for England,” Wenger said at his pre-Wembley press conference. “We called them yesterday, the FA, to explain that his bone bruising of the knee has not healed.”

Arsenal are 1.50 to defeat Tim Sherwood’s Aston Villa at Wembley on Saturday. Villa, under the care of the former Tottenham manager, are 6.50 with the draw at 4.33.

Despite being without Welbeck, Wenger still faces something of a selection dilemma ahead of the cup final.

Regular frontman Olivier Giroud has been out of sorts in recent weeks and Theo Walcott took full advantage when handed a starting role up front against West Brom at the Emirates on Sunday.

Walcott rattled in a first half hat-trick against the Baggies and afterwards admitted he hoped to have given Wenger a “headache” over his Wembley team selection.

Walcott is 6.50 to score the opening goal in Saturday’s FA Cup Final while the England international is 2.62 to score at anytime.
