Atsuto Uchida will face competition for the right-back spot at Schalke after the Bundesliga outfit completed the signing of Junior Caicara from Ludogorets Razgrad.
The 26-year-old Brazilian has penned a three-year contract in Gelsenkirchen, having only signed an extension to his deal with Ludogorets last December.
However, the challenge of trying his luck in Germany has persuaded the South American to move on, having helped his former employers win the Bulgarian title three seasons in a row.
And Schalke sporting director Horst Heldt is confident that Caicara will be a valuable addition to the squad at the Veltins-Arena.
He told the club’s official website: “With Junior Caicara, we now have another skilled right-back in the team together with Atsuto Uchida, who will certainly continue to help us.
“We’ve watched him intensely over the past months and are convinced of his ability.
“Junior is massively looking forward to the new challenge – he really wants to take the next step forward in his career and break through at Schalke.”
The arrival of Caicara in Gelsenkirchen comes soon after Austria international Christian Fuchs agreed a move away from Schalke to join English side Leicester City.
Schalke, who finished sixth last season, can be backed at 51.00 to win the Bundesliga title next season, with Borussia Dortmund 21.00 and Bayern Munich 1.10.
