Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has revealed Bastian Schweinsteiger is “flattered” by interest from teams in England and plans to discuss his future with the midfielder after his summer holidays.
The Germany international has just one year left to run on his current contract with the Bavarians, leading to speculation he could move on from the Bundesliga champions during the summer transfer window.
Manchester United are reportedly very keen on the 30-year-old, who claimed last month that he wanted to stay at the Allianz Arena to win a fourth successive German title.
Schweinsteiger lead Bayern to a Bundesliga and DFB Pokal double during Louis van Gaal’s time in charge of the German outfit, and the Dutchman is said to want to be reunited at Old Trafford.
Bayern would appear to be in no rush to offer Schweinsteiger a new deal, although that could be about to change after Rummenigge contacted the midfielder to discuss his future.
“I spoke to Bastian Schweinsteiger on the phone while on holiday and we’re going to meet again when he’s back,” Rummenigge said.
“I’m not going to hide the fact that I discerned from these talks that he is flattered by the interest from England.”
The Bayern CEO went on to rubbish reports the Munich-based outfit have any interest in swapping Schweinsteiger for a current Manchester United player after being linked with Angel di Maria.
When asked about the rumours, he told Sport1: “That was never a thought, for either us or Manchester United.”
Bayern begin their season on 31st July with the German Super Cup clash against Wolfsburg, with Pep Guardiola’s men 1.95 to claim the first piece of silverware on offer. The Wolves are 3.75.
The Bavarians are 6.00 to win the Champions League this season.
