Inter Milan coach Roberto Mancini said his priority will be to sign “quality” and “certainties” when he embarks on a busy recruitment drive this summer.

The 50-year-old, now back in his second spell in charge of Nerazzurri, revealed he has told his paymasters he is only interested in players who can hit the ground running and is not prepared to take chances on unknowns.

“We need to find players who bring something important, like I said, we need certainties, we can’t take risks if we’re not 100 per cent sure.”

Mancini won three successive Scudettos during his four-year reign between 2004 and 2008, before he was replaced by Jose Mourinho, but his latest stint back at Giuseppe Meazza has yet to take off.

The former Italy midfielder has been linked with a move for Ivory Coast powerhouse Yaya Toure, who he worked with at his old club Manchester City, and Mancini suggested his targets will have to be of a high quality.

“We have to get quality players,” Mancini said, ahead of Saturday’s trip to Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris to face fellow Europa League hopefuls Genoa.

“Those kind of players can bring the team what it is missing. If we can get players with the right features, we can improve a lot.

“It’s not easy to find these people, sometimes you can find a player you think is useful, but it takes time and you have to make a few mistakes to find those players like that.

“We need to find players who bring something important, like I said, we need certainties, we can’t take risks if we’re not 100 per cent sure.

“Inter have to be looking at certainties, but also young players with high potential. Both kinds of player.”

The Milanese giants are still in with a strong chance of qualifying for next season’s Europa League and Mancini says he has support from the club to build again.

The former City manager told reporters: “The president is here to build a great team, and that can only make me and the fans happy. We know we can’t afford to make mistakes in the transfer market.”

Genoa are currently priced 3.10 in the match betting and the draw outcome is quoted 3.40. Inter Milan are available to back at 2.30.
