Atletico Madrid striker Mario Mandzukic was on Monday preparing for a medical in Turin ahead of his proposed move to Serie A champions Juventus.
The 29-year-old arrived in the Italian city on Sunday and will undergo a number of tests before completing his high-profile switch from Vicente Calderon in La Liga.
The news comes after Juve coach Massimiliano Allegri confirmed a deal has been agreed for the Croatia international at the weekend.
“Mario Mandzukic is this morning undergoing a routine medical ahead of his proposed transfer to Juventus from Atletico Madrid,” the club confirmed on their website.
“The 29-year-old forward will take his first tests at the city’s Clinica Fornaca di Sessant, before completing the procedure at the Istituto di Medicina dello Sport medical centre.”
Allegri had stepped up his efforts to sign a proven striker mindful of the growing speculation Carlos Tevez could be on his way out of Juventus Stadium. The Argentina international has been linked with a move the other way, to join countryman Diego Simeone at Vicente Calderon in La Liga, and has also made no secret of his desire to join his boyhood club Boca Juniors.
Mandzukic only signed for the-then Spanish champions Atletico last summer on a four-year and scored 20 goals in all competitions in his debut campaign. He was brought in to replace Diego Costa, who joined Chelsea for £32million after scoring 36 goals in 51 games for the Spanish capital club.
Mandzukic scored 33 goals in 54 Bundesliga games for Bayern Munich after joining them from Wolfsburg in 2012.
Juventus are currently priced 1.57 to win Serie A next season and quoted 19.00 to win the Champions League.
