Lille v Valencia: Play safe when backing the away win

Valencia’s habit of drawing games has convinced Dan Fitch to back them in the Draw No Bet market against Lille.

“Since Celades became manager, Valencia have only lost to Barcelona and Ajax.”

Can Valencia take advantage of Lille struggles?

Lille remain rooted to the bottom of Group H, with Valencia currently two places above them in second.

The French club have lost both of their Champions League group matches this season, with Ajax running out as 3-0 winners and then Chelsea beating Lille 2-1 on home soil. That loss to Chelsea forms part of a run of four games without a win (D2 L2).

Valencia will be looking to take advantage of Lille’s poor form, at a time when their own is improving. There was outrage when the club sacked Marcelino after he delivered two consecutive top four finishes and the Copa del Rey, but since Albert Celades replaced him results have been solid.

In eight matches under Celades they have only lost twice (W3 D3) and are climbing La Liga, albeit slowly due to the number of drawn games. They beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in what was the first win of the Celades reign, which is a result that sees Valencia above the Londoners. With Chelsea travelling to Ajax on Wednesday, this is an opportunity for Valencia to cement their hold on a place in the last-16.

Valencia should not be outsiders

Lille are the slight favourites, which despite their home advantage seems a little strange.

They are not playing well and Valencia’s form is good. Since Celades became manager, Valencia have only lost to Barcelona and Ajax. It’s hard to see Lille adding their name to that short list.

With Valencia drawing a lot of games, it’s best to play safe when backing them. They are [2.02] in the Draw No Bet market.
