Veteran Iker Casillas says he would welcome fellow goalkeeper David de Gea to Real Madrid, should the Manchester United man opt to head to the Bernabeu.
Twenty-four-year-old Spain international De Gea has been heavily linked with a move back to his home city after four seasons in Manchester and, far from being worried about the competition, Casillas has welcomed the possible new signing.
De Gea is a great guy and is a goalkeeper for the present and the future.
He told Spanish radio station Cadena Ser: “If De Gea does come here, he will be welcomed. Competition is good.
“In this club, you have to understand that any day they can sign a goalkeeper or any player and if that is going to increase the level, all the better.
“We have a good relationship and I will give him a helping hand. We will have to fight and compete for a place just like we do in the national team.
“De Gea is a great guy and is a goalkeeper for the present and the future. He is a reality, he can handle pressure.
“To have gone to a big club like Manchester United and shown his worth says a lot and that experience has served him well.”
De Gea made his name with Atletico Madrid, helping his hometown club win the Europa League in 2010, before winning the Premier League title with United in 2012/13.
He has just over 12 months left on his Old Trafford contract and has been offered a new deal, but has yet to decide whether he will stay in Manchester or be tempted to return to his homeland.
Los Blancos can be backed at 2.50 to win La Liga next season, with current champions Barcelona 1.80 and Atletico Madrid 15.00.
