Barcelona have ended any speculation on the future of manager Luis Enrique by announcing a contract extension for the treble-winning boss.
The European champions have agreed terms on a deal which will keep him at the Nou Camp until 2017.
Enrique had fuelled speculation on his future before last weekend’s Champions League final win over Juventus in Berlin when he insisted he didn’t know if he would remain in charge next season.
However, Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu confirmed on Tuesday that the former Barca and Real Madrid midfielder has put pen to paper on a contract extension.
How could we be anything other than very happy?
Enrique told the club’s website he is looking forward to the challenge ahead and attempting to match this season’s success story.
“How could we be anything other than very happy? After the last year we’ve experienced, with difficulties but with a great final result, we’re more than excited about returning in the hope of winning titles,” he said.
“Anything that comes close will be more than exciting.”
After replacing Tata Martino last summer Enrique endured some tough times in mid-season as rumours claimed his relationship with Lionel Messi had fallen apart.
He turned things around in spectacular fashion as Barcelona became the first European club to win a treble twice, with Messi in outstanding form and declaring himself to be very happy at the Nou Camp.
The front three of Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez already has the current Barcelona side being touted as perhaps the greatest in the club’s history.
Barcelona are 1.72 to retain their La Liga title next season while they are 4.50 to become the first club to defend the Champions League trophy.
