Uruguay striker Luis Suarez has said Barcelona cannot afford to dwell on last season’s Treble-winning success and must continue to improve.

The Catalan capital giants completed a La Liga, Copa del Rey and Champions League clean sweep in Suarez’s debut season at Camp Nou and are now charged with the task of defending all three trophies.

“Barca is the greatest team in the world and it’s your obligation to win every competition you play in.”

The 28-year-old managed 16 goals in the Spanish top flight and was on target against Juventus in the final of Europe’s elite club competition, after winning his place in Luis Enrique’s side following a ban for biting.

“It was very difficult at the time I came, I came here to train,” he told Barca TV.

“It was quite difficult in such a short time. I was coming to a new club, a new city and it was a big change.

“But I was very proud of my season and the way I integrated into the team. Also, to continue my ambition to always want to achieve new things.”

Arda Turan and Aleix Vidal have been signed this summer but cannot play until January next year because of a transfer ban.

Former Liverpool favourite Suarez says it is essential Barca keep improving to stay ahead of their domestic and European rivals.

He said: “Barca is the greatest team in the world and it’s your obligation to win every competition you play in. We shouldn’t prioritise one competition, we shouldn’t make a priority, we need to do the best we can in all of them and try to win.”

Barcelona are currently priced 1.72 to win next season’s La Liga and quoted 4.00 in the Champions League outright betting.
