Milos Dimitrijevic has had a successful new lease of life with Sydney FC and wants to stay with the Sky Blues for next season.

First, though, the Serbian midfielder aims to help the club to pick up the A-League championship.

Dimitrijevic was ready to call time on his career in mid-2013 after leaving Red Star Belgrade due to the club’s financial problems. He did not play for more than six months, before his friend Nikola Petkovic – the Sky Blues defender – convinced him to move to Australia.

I hope first we can win the Grand Final and after that we will have time to talk about next season.

Dimitrijevic comes off contract at the end of the season and has not yet been offered a new deal. There is no doubting his value to the club, though, as he won all three player of the year awards – the first player to do so in Sydney’s history – on Tuesday night.

Even though this is his first full season with the Sky Blues, who are 3.00 to win the Grand Final, he was named on the bench when the club named their team of the decade this week.

The 31-year-old said: “Of course I want to stay here, but I’m still focused on the pitch. I hope first we can win the Grand Final and after that we will have time to talk about next season.”

This is Sydney’s best campaign in five years and Dimitrijevic wants to end it by winning a title for coach Graham Arnold.

He said: “Football is my life and I’ve worked very hard and I’m so happy Sydney FC gave me a second chance. Arnold’s like a father, he’s always available for me and I’m very lucky I have him as coach.”

Sydney will host a semi-final at Allianz Stadium on 9th May against either Adelaide, Wellington or Melbourne City.

Wellington are 2.10 to beat City in normal time, with Melbourne 3.30, while the draw can be backed at 3.50.
